I recently took part in a 10-week program called Bridging to Employment with Carrier Sekani Family Services, and a requirement was to take part in a two-week job experience, which I got to pick. So I chose Lakes District News.

I enjoyed my two weeks working with our local newspaper and I am very proud that some of the photos I took made it in the paper.

On my first day working [Monday] I was able to go out and take some photos, and by Wednesday, the photo I had taken at Lakes District Secondary School made the front page. Going out and taking photos was my favourite part because it’s something I really enjoy doing.

I had some challenges that I had to overcome in regard to going out and speaking with community members and taking their photo because it takes a while to get used to things. Other then that, I got to go out and hand out newspapers to our local stores and meet new people, and help with the front desk.

I’m glad I picked Lakes District News because it was something new I got to experience.
