Local paramedics are joining paramedics from across the province who are demanding change. They were in front of Overwaitea Foods last week gathering signatures for a petition asking the province to consider paramedics an essencial service. While firefighting and police services are both considered essential services in B.C., ambulance service is not. Paramedics say this results in less power as a union to bargain for fair wages and to promote staffing in rural areas. Local paramedics have been trying to gather signatures from at least 10 per cent of registered voters in the Nechako Lakes electoral district.
