Burns Lake fire chief Jim McBride (L) visited Decker Lake Elementary School last week along with volunteer fire fighter Travis Warkentin to teach children about home safety and respect for fire.

The event took place on Oct. 16 with the presence of Ms. Susan Russell and Mrs. Cheryl Iker's grades three to five. All kids received an instructional book and DVD, and were instructed to watch the material with their parents at home.

According to the McBride, this is the best way to reach the families and raise awareness about home safety.
