Old man winter not done yet

Well, the afternoons are lovely, but "Old Man Winter" is not done with us yet - Brrrrr!

A couple of announcements from the Southside; the traditional rib dinner at Grassy Plains Hall is coming up on March 12 at 5 p.m., admission is by donation, a silent auction too. This is presented by the S.S.H.S. Also their AGM is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on March 18 at the school.

There are always lots of things going on at the Southside Health and Wellness Centre. Watch for that bright yellow calendar that comes in the mail. There are arthritis exercise classes, foot care, drop-in schizophrenia society meetings, nurse practitioners, wellness forums, child and family counseling days, AA meetings, and evening clinics. Call them at 250-694-3270 for information and appointments.

Burns Lake and District Health Care Auxiliary have a calendar too. You will find adult clinics there, a listing of the pines adult day care centre with days and times. There are also listings for chronic disease, oncology clinic, and island hearing clinic. Unfortunately I see that scam artists are again popping their ugly heads out of the woodwork, or wherever it is that they hide. Be mindful and beware. Sad to say that there are unscrupulous people out there who think that your assets should be theirs. Be careful.

The Burns Lake legion has a steak dinner coming up on February 25. Crib is every Thursday at 7 p.m. Check it out.

The Tweedsmuir Park Rod and Gun Club annual Game Banquet is coming up on February 26. Doors open at 6, dinner at 7, dance from 9 to 1 a.m. Tickets are available from Linda Blackwell 250-692-3728 or Outdoor Adventures at 250-692-3777.

Watch for info on the Senior Games this summer - lots time to plan for that, get your calendar and pencil out.

The Arts Council annual fund raiser for the Burns Lake Relay For Life takes place at 7:30 p.m. on February 26 at "The Root Cellar" (Alaska Way). Music from "North of Dixie Jazz Band" from Smithers and local guest Marcel Plasway. Admission by donation, doors open at 6:45.

From March 6 to 12, the 54 annual Lakes District Festival of the Performing Arts will be taking place.

Senior luncheons: March 8 and 22 noon, business meeting at 1 p.m. upstairs at the Regional District meeting room on March 7. Carpet bowling is every Wednesday at 1:30 at the Decker Lake Hall. There will also be a pot luck supper and dance at the hall on March 19. Come and join the fun.

New address for the cancer unit, now at the Evergreen Mall next to Remax. Also hours have been extended from 11 a.m to 3 p.m. Tuesday and Friday.
