Burns Lake RCMP officers have recently located a large scale grow operation that consisted of approximately 3000 marijuana plants, about 30 km west of Burns Lake.
The discovery of this operation is tied to a Prince Rupert RCMP investigation into a pot grow-op and clandestine lab.
Police were looking for a Prince Rupert resident who had ties to an organized crime group. This investigation led the authorities to find the operation on a rural property along Hwy. 16, near Forestdale Canyon Road, on Sept. 30, 2017.
Two men were arrested by Burns Lake RCMP and both were released with a Dec. 8, 2017 court date in Burns Lake.
“This investigation shows the multi-jurisdictional ties that organized crime groups have in northern B.C.”, stated inspector Blake Ward, the officer in charge of the Prince Rupert RCMP. “The RCMP will continue to target individuals with ties to organized crime groups to ensure the safety of community members.”
In May, Prince Rupert police issued two search warrants - one for a grow-op and the second for a clandestine lab producing shatter. Sergeant Dave Uppal with the Prince Rupert RCMP has confirmed that these operations were related to the one near Burns Lake.
