An organizational review of Burns Lake’s recreation facilities - conducted earlier this summer after being suggested by councillor Kelly Holliday - is raising questions over why the full report has not yet been released.

The organizational review, which is part of the village’s recreation master plan, is intended to reduce some of the costs associated with the local recreation facilities.

Council was expected to release this review after a closed meeting on July 26. Since then, Lakes District News has asked for this report repeatedly. But according to the village, council needed “more time to review it.”

As many other community members, Tania Cunningham, a group fitness instructor at the Lakeside Multiplex, is concerned that council may be stalling the release of the full report.

“I am concerned as to why the report hasn’t been released,” she said. “There was public and [Lakeside] Multiplex employee participation and consultation in this organizational review; we are now requesting it to be released.”

“We all have been anxiously waiting to read the report because we provided a lot of great ideas and positive feedback.”

“What we hope came out of this report is that council needs to support staff and management at the [Lakeside] Multiplex, and seek more public and stakeholder consultation regarding the direction and growth of our amazing community recreation facility,” she added.

Last week Lakes District News asked acting Mayor John Illes when the full report was expected to be released; however, he did not respond by press time. Later that week, a summary of the report was included in the agenda of the Sept. 6 council meeting.
