The Chinook Community Forest presented a donation on Feb. 28 to the Skiing for Schools program that was happening at the Omineca Ski Club (OSC).

Students from William Konkin Elementary took a breather from their ski classes when Chinook Community Forest manager Ken Nielsen presented an oversized cheque for $5,000.

This was the second year that Chinook has given $5,000 to the program.

“It comes out of a donation fund that the board of directors sets every year,” Nielsen told Lakes District News.

The funds help cover the cost of transporting the children from their schools to the ski club, as well some payment to the coaches and to the OSC for the trail grooming.

The non-competitive classes cover the fundamentals of skiing, including proper bodily form and maneuvering on slopes.
