Snowshoers race on Jan. 12 for a Special Olympics-sanctioned event at Omineca Ski Club. A total of 21 athletes, from Burns Lake, Prince George and Smithers joined snowshoe races ranging in distance from 50 to 1,600 metres. Burns Lake Special Olympics organized the event and provided the volunteers and medical support. Local businesses donated $2,000 in prizes such as clothing, games and tools, and the Royal Canadian Legion donated $4,000 to the Burns Lake Special Olympics. Many of the racers at the event are due to head to the Special Olympics provincials in Vernon at end of February. (Blair McBride photos)
