Winifred May Stanyer

October 2, 1925 - September 17, 2017

Winifred May Stanyer was born October 2, 1925 in Feltham, Middlesex, England and passed away peacefully September 17, 2017 at the Burns Lake Hospital with her loving family by her side.

Winnie met the love of her life Allen Stanyer during the second world war in England. On January 26, 1946 they were married in Feltham, England. Allen had to return to Canada with the army in early February and 6 months later Winnie boarded the ship "Aquitania" for the long journey to Canada. She arrived at Pier 21 in Halifax in early August. From there she came by train to Burns Lake.

It was hard for her to leave her family not knowing if she would ever see them again but she did manage to go back home several times over the years.

Winnie was not only a wonderful mother but she was always there for her grand children and great grandchildren as well.

She was a great cook, made the best cup of tea and everyone loved her English scones. The grand children will always remember her dippy eggs.

She was an avid hockey fan and supported the Burns Lake Braves for many years.

She loved to bowl and watched numerous sports on TV. She also enjoyed volunteering at the thrift shop for€many years.

Winnie is survived by her loving husband Allen of 71 years, her two sons Allan (Mae), David (Bari), two daughters Carolyn, Bonnie (Dallas), 6 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

She will be sadly missed and we want to express our gratitude to family and friends of their support during her illness.

There will be no service at this time.
