Aside from a few setbacks, Burns Lake Band’s (BLB) new hotel - Key-oh Lodge - is “right on schedule,” said BLB councillor Daniel Cunningham.

“A few setbacks are to be expected with a project this large.”

Cunningham said the new hotel is expected to be completed by Dec. 21, 2016. However, the hotel won’t be opened until the following month.

"We are very proud to have come this far and are looking forward to serving the lakes district very soon and for many years to come."

Cunningham said the BLB is currently hiring employees for the Key-oh Lodge. The hotel will employ five full-time employees, as well a few part-time and seasonal employees.

BLB Chief Dan George said the new hotel will not only create jobs, but it will also provide a better option of accommodation for visitors in the Lakes District.

“It will be good to everyone,” he said.

Chief George turned the first sod for the $8-million project on April 26, 2016.

The 42-room lodge will include an exercise room, a business centre, a breakfast café and a two-storey entrance lobby that will display cultural and historical photographs and art.

Key-oh Lodge will feature artwork of local artists, including photos from Carla Lewis and artwork from Charrine Lace. In addition, it will feature clan animal carvings from Carver Kings’ star Ryan Cooke.

Cunningham said BLB is planning a grand opening event in mid-January. The exact date still hasn’t been set.
