The fifth community animal care event was held on June 5-7 at the Margaret Patrick Memorial Hall in Burns Lake.

According to Alistair Schroff, director of the Lakes Animal Friendship Society, 111 spay/neuter surgeries were performed by two veterinarians over three days. A third veterinarian performed health checks, vaccinations and deworming of a similar number of cats and dogs.

The three veterinarians were supported by 14 animal health technologists and assistants. On the last day of the event, the surgery slots filled up within 15 minutes of the doors opening.
