Protesters in Burns Lake held a rally on Jan. 28, 2013 at the Lakeview Mall in support of the broadly themed Idle No More (INM) movement that continues to attract public attention across the country to the concerns of First Nations people.

About 60 people attended the rally inside the Lakeland Mall across from the drug store. Speakers noted that the majority of those in attendance were First Nations, but reiterated that INM calls attention to issues that extend beyond the sole concern of First Nations in the area.

“Idle No More is not just an Indian movement,” said Robert Charlie at the start of the rally. “It’s about the environment, the water and the lands. We’re fighting for the collective rights of all in this community [Burns Lake]”.

The gathering proceeded without incident or any attempt to prevent shoppers from using the mall.
