The Lakes District Museum houses an abundance of artifacts from prior to 1940.

Currently on display right now, visitors to the museum will be able to see artifacts from the Canadian Army from the first and second World Wars. As well they will be able to see artifacts from the German army from the second World War.

Other attractions include equipment from the early days of the forestry service, typewriters used in the post office and old farming equipment is on display along side old equipment used by shoemakers in the early 20 Century.

The two big attractions at the museum are the skull and antlers in velvet from a young bull moose. This moose never shed his antlers, and the set on display is only one of four in the world. The other is the ‘Bucket of Blood’ house that was built by Barry Mulvany, and was used to gamble and buy liquor.

Visitors should note that nobody died in this particular ‘Bucket of Blood’ house. The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
