The Great Canadian Songbook in the LDSS MPR

The third performance in Lakes District Arts Council’s 13th performing arts season takes place on Nov. 16 in the Lakes District Secondary School. The Great Canadian Songbook, featuring tenor Ken Lavigne, Yukon singer Diyet and Tiller’s Folly. This show highlights great Canadian songs by Ian Tyson, Leonard Cohen, Stan Rogers, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Buffy St. Marie, Anne Murray, Stompin’ Tom Connors, the Barenaked Ladies and Blue Rodeo … and many more. Canadian songs of the past and present take you on a musical journey from Bonavista to Vancouver Island to the Arctic Ocean. The show was developed to mark the 150th anniversary of Canada’s confederation … and this season is the last time the show will tour. So … don’t miss this chance to see it. Tenor Ken Lavigne returns to Burns Lake, accompanied by Celtic-influenced band Tiller’s Folly and sub-Arctic-Southern Tutchone-Japanese-Tlingit-Scottish-Yukoner Diyet. Together, these great and varied artists perform the music of the Great Canadian Songbook. You’ll know all the songs, and most of the words, and you’ll want to sing along … and you can expect to get the chance!

Tickets for The Great Canadian Songbook are still available at Process 4 circle arts Gallery, Lakes District Printing and Stationery and the Lakes Artisan Centre. Look for our posters around town, and ads in Lakes District News. Tickets will also be available at the door but … we expect this show to be popular and well-attended so, get your tickets ahead of time to make sure you get a good seat, and to avoid lineups at the door.

The guest artist for this show will be former Lakes District resident Leonard Matte, and the guest baker will be Ron Miller. CD’s will be for sale from Great Canadian Songbook performers, and there will be programme draws and prize draws at intermission. Don’t miss this great evening of entertainment!
