New Village Council sworn in, holds first meeting

The new Village Council of Burns Lake was inaugurated and convened its first meeting on Nov. 6.

RCMP Corporal Greg Willcocks led the swearing-in ceremony for Mayor Dolores Funk and councillors Darrell Hill, Kevin White, Henry Wiebe, and Charlie Rensby.

About two dozen members of the public, including some relations of of Funk, attended the ceremony.

Funk won the mayoral election on Oct. 20 with 58.5 per cent of the vote, beating other candidates Albert Gerow and John Rauch.

Voter turnout was 26 per cent, or 381 ballots cast out of 1,471 voters.

The new mayor takes the place of Chris Beach, who was mayor since December, 2016 but did not seek re-election.
