In Loving Memory ~
Betty (nee Downs) was born in Blyth, England, in July 1928. She immigrated to Canada at the age of 9 months with her parents and older brother, Art. The family settled originally in Saskatchewan and later moved to Victoria and then Quesnel.
Betty and her dear friend Doris moved to Wells, BC, and then on to Burns Lake in 1951, where they worked as telephone operators.
Betty married John Hart in 1952, and son Warren was born in 1953.
Betty was predeceased by her husband, John, and brothers Ernie, Art, and Nick.
She is survived by brother Monty and son Warren (Donna), grandsons Wes and Cameron, and great-grandchildren Linden, Alayna, Abby, Grace, and Claire.
Betty was an avid gardener and was able to overcome the challenges of northern gardening by growing beautiful flower beds and vegetables. Betty was active as a volunteer with the Canadian Cancer Society for more than 50 years. She also volunteered for various other local organizations, including the Museum Society and the Sons of Norway.
She loved to play cards and often joined the card club in Decker Lake for games of crib and whist. Betty and John went on many adventurous trips, including a cruise through the Panama Canal, a road trip to Inuvik, and a hike over the Chilkoot Trail.
After John passed away in 2005, Betty travelled with friends to the Ukraine and to Eastern Canada to enjoy the fall colors.
Betty maintained a healthy lifestyle and would walk daily until her later years, when she developed heart problems. Betty passed away peacefully in July 2017 at the age of 89.
