Everyone is making hay while the sun shines

What a pleasant surprise last week to have Denis and Rose Jaycox stop in for a very short visit. They were on their way to visit family at Takysie. They have moved to Cecil Lake now where they make their home.

Great long weekend

It seems everyone took advantage of the holiday weekend. Everyone was going camping somewhere and also some fishing.

The fish were biting big time. Over the weekend the ferry was just packed with trailers, campers of all sizes plus boats of all sizes and makes.

I would bet some of those big boats would take lots of fuel for a days fishing.

Family reunion

Last weekend was a busy four days for the Keefe family reunion starting on Friday afternoon and closing out on Monday. It was out of this world believe me.

It was held at Moosehorn Lodge and what a wonderful place for a reunion.

Lots of space for campers and trailers and nice comfortable cabins for those who came in by car and pickups. Lots of folks brought along boats and had some great fishing.

With the rain that seemed to dog the whole four days there was a suitable very large building with tables and lots of room for cooking and serving meals.

The building was nice and clean and dry. Lots of good food served up and great variety as well.

There was lots of hugging, kissing and handshaking. There was a large number of the younger generation that now have families of their own.

Many of them the last time I had seen them they were children and now are moms and dads. It was such a wonderful experience for us older folks.

Everyone was so friendly and it made me very proud to belong to such a loving and caring family.

I did a run count through and as an estimate there were over 100. I can stand to be corrected as some one of the family said 130. I just wonder if the very young children were included.

No matter how many were there, there was lots and lots of room for the people and for the campers. Although lots of the families are scattered and some long distances they all turned out for this special family celebration.

No rain

It’s now Monday and no rain so far. A number of ranchers have chanced haying and it’s starting to spoil everyday the food value is going down.

There was the start of a wonderful heavy hay crop and it’s been a disaster year. Let’s hope August may improve weather wise it sure would be a break for these guys.

Another reunion

I have just had a reminder as there was a Giesbrecht family reunion held at Beaver Point Resort. It was also a great family time of getting together.

The rain also was making things a bit difficult but all in all they managed very well. There was also well shelters, out of the rain. There was just over 100 present.

There was lots of good food and lots of visiting. The Giesbrecht family are also a big and well known family in the Lakes District. This family reunion was held on the holiday weekend as well as the Keefe family reunion.

Nice surprise

Another very pleasant surprise this morning when I bumped into some more good old friends, Doris Carleton and her daughter Pat Kupiak. This family spent many years in the Noralee district.

Doris taught school in a little old log cabin school before a new school was built right at the Noralee settlement.

After the school closed it’s doors Doris moved to teach in Burns Lake. George, her husband for many years, has since passed away in Penticton hospice home Oct. 30, 2009. After selling the ranch at Noralee, George worked as a ranch-hand for many years for Gordon McFee.

Although our visit was too short we covered a lot of very old history so many years ago now.

Visitors

David and Linda Scott and their family members all from the lower mainland are spending some of their holidays at their home here at the landing. The highlight of the stay was the Keefe family reunion.

It was very unfortunate for father David to suffer an accident with his arm. Dave and his wife Linda spent their whole holiday in Prince George waiting for a place at the hospital for medical attention.

The younger members of the family had a very enjoyable time at the four day family reunion.

Dave had so looked forward to this special celebration but at least he is back in their summer home and the operation went well. No mater how we plan we seem to have a monkey wrench get into the works just at the wrong time so it seemed for David.

Still no rain

It’s sure a treat to wake up and it’s not raining, surprise, surprise. It’s Thursday morning and it’s such a lovely sunny day. Makes us all feel happy.

The ranchers are what we would call making hay while the sun shines. Let’s hope they get this much needed break.

A little story

A catholic sister was on her way home from her local hospital. She ran out of fuel about 200 yards from a roadside service station.

She had no containers to get fuel in so she found a bed pan in her vehicle.

She took it to the station and had it filled with gas and borrowed funnel to pour the fuel into her tank.
