The College of New Caledonia (CNC) this week appointed Dr. Chad Thompson as the new Vice President Academic.

Thompson took on the new role after serving as Acting Vice President Academic since December 2017, the CNC said in a press release on Dec. 10.

The new Vice President Academic began working at CNC in September 2012 as the Dean of the School of University Studies and Career Access.

He holds a Ph.D. in Social and Political Thought from York University, an M.A. in Contemporary Social/Political Thought from the University of Victoria and an Honours B.A. in Political Science from the University of Regina.

“Dr. Thompson has shown exceptional aptitude as acting Vice President Academic throughout the last year,” CNC President Henry Reiser said. “We’re honoured to appoint him permanently to the role.”

Thompson worked on post-secondary reform projects in former Soviet bloc and Central Asian countries in the 1990’s and early 2000’s.

“One of the things that brought me to B.C. was the unique nature of the college system,” he said. “It offers students, whom otherwise would not succeed in post-secondary education, an affordable access point. Colleges give students the opportunity to explore different fields, discover their passions and, if necessary, to have a second chance.”

He became Acting Vice President Academic after Jay Notay left the position, who had been in the role since 2015.
