One of the highlights of the Lakes Loppet every year is the mascot race. The racers consisted of Omineca Sasquatch, leprechaun, Lakes District News Newsie, Lakey the Moose and Bonhomme the snowman. Who won the race? Unfortunately, Newsie did not win the race. Omineca Sasquatch placed first, in part due to a pile up involving the leprechaun and Lakey the moose, followed by a spill by Bonhomme. Resulting in Newies’ first trip to the podium in second place.
