Pink Shirt Day was honoured by the Silverthorne Elementary students on Feb. 28. After lunch the students assembled in the gym. Many students and all teachers and teachers support staff were wearing pink shirts in support of anti bullying and the importance of being kind. As part of the assembly the children were introduced to Sis-Bear and Tsalic-Squirrel of the Carrier Nation. Sis-Bear represents positive personal and cultural identity and Tsalic-Squirrel represents social awareness and responsibility. Learning to have awareness and responsibility of themselves and of the surroundings gives the students the healthy mindset to not be a bully as well as how to not be affected by bullying.
