Icy roads have caused two accidents in the area around Burns Lake.

A driver was left unharmed after he lost control on Dec. 9 of his Mazda Protege on Highway 16 near Crystal Road at Tintagel, where the road was covered in ice and slush, RCMP media relations Cpl. Madonna Saunderson told Lakes District News.

His vehicle was badly damaged in the accident that happened around 6 p.m.

A previous accident on Dec. 9 involved an adult male who sustained minor injuries. He swerved to avoid a deer on the icy road and lost control of his vehicle, rolling into a ditch just before 5 p.m. near Priestly Hill, about 25 kilometres east of Burns Lake.

Driving on icy roads is often unpredictable but the use of winter tires helps wheels to better grip the roads.

Drivers who get into accidents but who don’t have winter tires might face increased difficulties when filing insurance claims, according to ICBC regulations.
