VIDEO: Plane that emergency landed on Hwy 16 near Telkwa, on its way again

Police received a report of a Cessna with mechanical problems need to touch down immediately

UPDATE 2 p.m., Oct. 23:

A Cessna aircraft that made an emergency landing on the evening of Oct. 22 on Highway 16 near Telkwa is back up in the air. The plane was reportedly en route from Kamloops to an undisclosed destination in the northern part of B.C.

This morning, after the plane's mechanical issues were resolved, the Ministry Of Transportation, working with Dawson Road Maintenance and Aspen Traffic Control (Smithers) closed Highway 16 in both directions from Raymond Road to Good Road for 15 minutes so the pilot could take off and resume their journey.


ORIGINAL STORY: 

A plane had to make an emergency landing on Highway 16 near the village of Telkwa last night (Oct.22).

Smithers RCMP received a report of an air emergency, in which a Cessna experiencing mechanical issues needed to make an immediate landing.

The pilot landed the plane safely on the highway.

The Ministry of Transportation, Highways and Infrastructure conducted a highway assessment following the incident. There were no reported injuries or damage to property.

Transport Canada will be conducting an investigation.
