At a recent council meeting, Sheryl Worthing, Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for the Village of Burns Lake, presented a conceptual development plan for the 1675 Gowan Road property . The plan, which is still in its early stages, serves as a foundation for future discussions and aims to attract investment to the area.
At the council meeting Worthing said, once the project is fully developed, the plan will be used at tourism and investment events to showcase the property's potential. However, council members expressed a need for further clarification on the layout and proposed services for the property before proceeding.
One key proposal from council is to incorporate multi-use trails into the development, which would enhance outdoor recreational opportunities for the community. Worthing highlighted that McGee House, which is already operational on the property, has been successfully generating revenue.
In addition, staff are currently investigating the potential donation of a ski-lift for the property and will update council on progress. A toboggan hill has also been identified as a short-term objective, with the possibility of having it operational this year.
Council has indicated that adding RV and camping spots would be a priority, with the potential to have these facilities available in the short term.
Worthing also told Lakes District News that while discussions continue, no specific timelines have been set for the project.
"We will start to present the concept to other organizations in the coming months," she said.
Earlier in August, the Village of Burns Lake approved the conceptual plan to develop a concept plan for the property and contracted TRUE Engineering to create the conceptual drawings and a flyover video.
