2017 a busy year for Burns Lake Fire and Rescue Department

The Burns Lake Fire and Rescue Department had a very busy year in 2017, responding to 131 calls for assistance, up from 113 in 2016 - this represents a 16 per cent overall increase. Motor vehicle incidents led the way in 2017 with 37 responses while alarms activated came second, with 26 calls. In 2017, council undertook three community engagement sessions at the farmer’s market, Lakes District Fall Fair and the Lakes District Christmas Craft Fair. During these events, members of the public were encouraged to fill out surveys about village priorities. The majority of respondents (45 per cent) chose infrastructure - water, sewer and street repair - as their number one priority, followed by economic development (40 per cent).
