Council has authorized staff to purchase an additional auto belay - an automatic belay device that eliminates the need for a human belayer - for the climbing wall at the Lakeside Multiplex at a maximum cost of $2600. The village says staff is currently unable to provide belay services on demand due to the limited number of staff. “Having staff stand and belay customers costs the municipality every day in time that staff could be spending doing other things,” says the village. “An additional auto belay will bring solo climbers who could’t enjoy the wall by themselves.”
