About 300 people came out for the 62nd annual Honours Concert of the Lakes District Festival of the Performing Arts at Island Gospel Fellowship Hall in Burns Lake on March 16. The evening topped off two weeks of performances by treating the audience to vocal, piano, instrumental and speech arts shows. Numerous young participants received scholarships for their performances. In the vocals category, students from William Konkin Elementary, Woyenne Kindergarten, and Grades 1-2 and 2-3 from Decker Lake Elementary won school scholarships. The individual winners in that category include Emma Moore, Julia Hamp, Courtney Wainwright, Brooklyn Higginson, Sara Wipfli, Olivia Toews, Jaiden Wilson, Samantha Love, Sara Torunski, Bryer MacLean, Lillica Paquette and Khyrin Collier. In the instrumentals category Nicholas Collier, Khyrin Collier, Gavin Miller, Clayton Miller, Abigail Miller and Pilots of the Bow won scholarships. In the piano category, Daria Strimbold, Ava Nealis, Hadasa Finstad, Tephilla Finstad, Teagan Bell, Odin Vetsch, Lily Davis, Lina Nguyen, Haven Wilejto, Amariah Fifield, Genevieve Fifield, Kason Paquette, Nicole Hamp and Charley Ingram won scholarships. In speech arts, students from Ms. Burkholder’s Grade 2/3 class at Francois Lake Elementary School and Ms. Moyah’s Grade 4/5 class won scholarships, as well as Piper Dougherty, Courtney Wainwright, Alyssa Shively, Kim Higginson, Nicholas Collier, and Gabe and Belle Shively.
