A popular tourist attraction in the Lakes District is getting province-wide exposure after it was included in Backroad Mapbooks' list of top 10 free camping spots in B.C.

Augier Lake Recreation Site was listed as the fourth best free camping spot in the province on Aug. 24, 2016.

"Sitting on the north tip of Augier Lake, these nine free campsites make the perfect spot to spend the weekend on an incredibly beautiful beach," says Backroad Mapbook's team. "The available boat launch allows for fishing and boating, but be prepared as the easy access from Burns Lake makes this a very popular destination."

Lynn Synotte, president of the Lakes Outdoor Recreation Society (LORS), said LORS directors were delighted to see Augier Lake listed as number four in Backroad Mapbook's list.

"Locals have known the attributes of Augier for years, but now this area is being visited more frequently as people experience the beauty of the Lakes District," said Synotte. "Anyone who has camped at Augier just loves the sandy beach, the char and rainbow trout fishing as well as the well-maintained facilities."

The Lakes Outdoor Recreation Society maintains 28 free camping sites - including Augier Lake - and two provincial parks in this region. Synotte said camping has become increasingly popular over the years, but that it is not free at most campsites.

Augier Lake was the only Northern B.C. camping spot included in the list. To check the complete list, visit www.backroadmapbooks.com/blog/free-camping-bc.
