Hampton Affiliates' Babine Forest Products mill is currently shut down due to a large fire that damaged the main operating lines at the mill last week.

According to Dave Garcia, Hampton's Canadian regional operations manager an electrical failure at the sawmill resulted in a the fire breaking out on March 1.

Garcia said to Lakes District News that the mill was shut down all of last week and will continue to be shut down this week due to damaged caused to the mill by the fire.

"It was a significant fire," he said.

"We should be operational again by the end of this week," Garcia added.

"Both [Babine Mill fire crew and Burns Lake Fire and Rescue Department]  did a great job in getting the fire under control very quickly," Garcia said.

He went on to say that there were no injuries as a result of the fire.
