Students in Grade 5/6 at Decker Lake Elementary School were taught some very valuable fire safety lessons when Burns Lake Fire and Rescue department fire chief Jim McBride stopped by the school on Monday.
In recognition of fire safety month, McBride handed out fire safety books filled with tips, as well as a fire safety DVD that students can watch at home with their parents.
The fire safety books are sponsored by the Burns Lake Fire and Rescue Department as well as a number of local businesses and community members. McBride said to the class that fires can easily be avoided by being fire smart in and around the home.
