The Burns Lake Band and the Village of Burns Lake have renewed their full service agreement for another five years. The village says the agreement has generated a “source of equality to all residents.”

The Burns Lake Band (BLB) and the Village of Burns Lake have renewed their full service agreement, which was set to expire on Dec. 31, 2016.

Village council has recently approved the terms and conditions of the service agreement, which generates taxation and operating revenue equal to that of all residents of the municipality. There are no variations in fees on or off reserve.

According to a village staff report, both village staff and BLB council have commented that they are happy with the full service agreement and wish to continue for an additional five-year term - from Jan. 1, 2017 to Dec. 31, 2021.

“Having the full service agreement has generated a source of equality to all residents,” says the report.

The Burns Lake Band and the village signed their first ever full service agreement in January of 2012. The full service agreement provides services to BLB members such as water and sewer, garbage collection and fire protection. Prior to 2012, the village and BLB had separate agreements for these services.

Water, sewer and garbage are calculated based on the number of users multiplied by the fee levied as set in Burns Lake's fees and charges bylaw.
