Burns Lake mourns death of local woman

Burns Lake residents are mourning the death of a 44-year-old local woman hit by a Via Rail train on Oct. 8, 2016.

The incident took place at approximately 12 p.m. near the train crossing located at Francois Lake Drive and Gilgan Drive in Burns Lake.

"Police were in the area at the time of the incident and arrived on scene immediately," said corporal Aaron Semmler with the Burns Lake RCMP.

According to Barb McLintock, a spokesperson for the B.C. Coroners Service, the death is believed to be accidental.

The Via Rail train, which was heading to Prince Rupert, continued its journey approximately three hours after the incident.

The Burns Lake RCMP is continuing to assist the B.C. Coroners Services with their investigation into the woman’s death.

No further information is being released at this time.
