Burns Lake society aims to warm up winter

Those who donate will have the opportunity to be entered in a $100 cash prize draw.

The nascent Burns Lake Tsi’yanne Buts’udilhti Friendship Centre Society (TBFCS) has organized a warm clothing drive for Burns Lake and area residents in need.

“We wanted to do something that would be community driven and helpful within Burns Lake,” said Deanna Nolan, TBFCS director. “I know that the community is going through tougher times economically, and it’s not always easy to go out and purchase new items for winter.”

Decorated boxes have been distributed throughout the community at eleven different locations: the Burns Lake Native Development Corporation, the College of New Caledonia, Carrier Sekani Family Services, CIBC, Bulkley Valley Credit Union, Margaret Patrick Memorial Centre, Village of Burns Lake, Regional District of Bulkley Nechako, RBC, Rainbow Gas Bar, and Gwyn’s Green Grocer.

The boxes will be collected on Jan. 9, and the donations distributed on Jan. 10 at the College of New Caledonia from 1 p.m. until the last coat is gone.

Those who donate will have the opportunity to be entered in a $100 cash prize draw.
