Charges approved in Fort St. James stabbing

Provincial crown counsel has approved charges of second-degree murder against 33-year-old Annie Jean Anatole.

Provincial crown counsel has approved charges of second-degree murder against 33-year-old Annie Jean Anatole in the stabbing death of a 31-year-old man on the Tl'azt'en Nation Reserve (Tachie).

On July 17, 2016 at 2:11 a.m., the Fort St. James RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing in Tachie, which is located approximately 65 km west of Fort St. James.

On route to the call, officers intercepted family members of the victim, who were transporting him to the nearest hospital. Upon attendance to the hospital, the victim was pronounced deceased.

According to the RCMP, it is believed that Anatole and the victim knew each other. Anatole has been remanded in custody until her next court appearance on Aug. 15, 2016.

As required by the police act, the Independent Investigations Office has been notified and they are assessing the matter as it relates to police officers’ actions and the medical assistance provided to the now deceased victim.
