Cheslatta Carrier Nation held a ground breaking ceremony on May 31 at their Danskin location on the Southside. Many community members gathered in support of Cheslatta’s new administration building and community hall. Jonathan Burkholder from Marmot Builders will be the main contractor along with other local people working on this very large project. The building will be 27,000 square feet and will house a community hall that will hold up to 400 people. This project is a huge boost for Cheslatta and the entire Southside. Chief Corrina Leween said, “It was a very special day for us and emotional for many. I was impressed to see so many community members and service providers who came out for our ground breaking event. This is a historical moment for Cheslatta and a much over due project as we have been doing business in an old school that was built in the 1950s. We are scattered all over the place with six different spots for our admin on Southside. Now we will be all together under one roof. We are very excited for this new project.”
