China Nose fire update

Firefighters continue to have some success containing the fire, but conditions remain volatile

The firefighters battling the China Nose Mountain wildfire once again were given favourable weather conditions over night.

Low winds allowed firefighters to continue to somewhat contain the forest fire that is located 15 km southeast of Houston.

The fire is now 20 per cent contained.

Despite the success the past couple of days the fire still remains volatile and one of the priority fires in the province.

Currently there are 135 firefighters, 15 helicopters and 35 pieces of heavy equipment being used to battle the blaze, with firefighters continuing to arrive in droves in order to sustain 24 hour operations.

The fire is estimated to be around 4000 hectares in size.

The portion of Hwy. 16 between Topley and Decker Lake that was closed Friday remains re-opened, but that status could change at a moments notice due to fire activity.
