Deputy fire chief Rob Krause, along with four other chief officers from B.C., travelled to Ottawa earlier this month to take part in government relations week for the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs (CAFC).

Along with approximately 40 other chief officers from across Canada, the B.C. contingent met with MPs to discuss a number of key fire and life safety issues and to lobby the federal government for their support.

Over a three-day period, the fire chiefs met with a number of MPs to discuss rail safety, first responders’ mental health issues and national building codes.

According to Krause, the purpose of these discussions was to ensure that MPs from all parties understand the importance of these issues at the national level, and to seek their support in parliament when changes are proposed.
