Fatal collision near Fraser Lake

A 32 year old Fraser Lake man died after colliding head on with an eastbound pickup on the Stellaquo overpass.

On Feb. 2 2012, at 8:18 p.m. members of the Prince George Regional Provincial Traffic Services, Vanderhoof Traffic Services and Fraser Lake RCMP detachment, responded to a two vehicle collision on Hwy. 16 West of Fraser Lake.

A 32 year old Fraser Lake man died after the westbound Honda Civic he was driving crossed the center line and collided, head on with an eastbound GMC pickup on the Stellaquo overpass.

The driver and lone occupant of the pickup, was not injured in the crash.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash which resulted in the closure of Hwy. 16 to both directions of traffic for several hours.

A detour was established around the crash scene.

The RCMP and the B.C. Coroner's Service is currently working to establish the causal factors in this collision and determine what happened leading up to the collision that contributed to the driver's state of mind and ultimately the collision. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
