On May 25 a fire was reported at Oknianski Lake. The wildfire (R10501) is still listed as out of control, however no evacuation alerts or orders have been recommended at this time in conjunction with this wildfire.

Crews remained onsite yesterday evening until midnight, at which point the estimated size of the wildfire was 13.5 hectares. No significant growth has been reported since last night, however the BC Wildfire Service staff will be assessing the fire from the air this morning, May 26, to confirm this.

Today, May 26, the two Initial Attack Crews and one Unit Crew are again actioning the wildfire. Along with three pieces of heavy equipment they will be building dozer guard and reinforcing that guard with hose and pumps. Two helicopters are available as needed, with one likely onsite for the majority of the day.

Yesterday a group of airtankers completed their objective of boxing in the fire with retardant, anchoring from an existing swamp on one side of the fire and successfully slowing the growth of the fire during peak burning time.

The wildfire is located approximately 13 km from the Grassy Plains store and 5 km from Tatalrose Lake. It is now listed as being held which means that it is not likely to spread beyond it’s predetermined boundaries under current conditions.
