“Emergencies seem to come in big bunches lately,” said Burns Lake fire chief Rob Krause.

Between the afternoon of Nov. 23 to the afternoon of Nov. 24, the volunteers of the Burns Lake Fire Department attended four calls in the Burns Lake area.

Calls included a chimney fire, a person stuck in an elevator, a commercial fire alarm and a “wild land fire report” - somebody reported that a house was on fire when in fact someone was burning a brush pile behind the house.

“They were all minor in nature; the most serious of all four was the chimney fire,” said Krause. “In the end we were able to contain the fire and get it extinguished for the homeowner.”

There were no calls over the weekend and so the volunteer firefighters were able to enjoy their annual bonspiel.
