A group of five Burns Lake friends have an even stronger bond after winning the lottery together.
The lively group of pals, who has played together for three years, won $112,798 on a Lotto 6/49 multi-draw ticket from the May 2, 2018 draw.
Lakeview Mall in Burns Lake sold the winning ticket.
The lucky group of friends went down to BCLC’s head office in Kamloops to collect their prize on June 21, 2018.
“The staff at BCLC were fantastic,” Patricia Corfe, whose friends know her as Pattie, told Lakes District News. “It was quite the experience; I hope to do it again one day.”
Corfe added that the best part of winning was not about the money.
“It’s about the camaraderie,” she said. “I couldn’t be happier to share this great fortune with these best friends.”
Overall the group said they look forward to more quality time with family, travelling and fishing at the lake.
Corfe also told BCLC that learning of the news was like a game of “telephone” between her friends - starting with Darrell Bergen, who discovered the win when he checked the ticket at Lakeview Mall, to Kim Hiebert chasing down her husband on the tractor to share the news with him.
“This win means so much to me,” added Susan Zimmer, another friend who won. “I plan to relax and spend all of my free time as a new grandma to my newborn grandchild.”
For Gail Thompson, the win will make her dream kitchen come true.
Lotto 6/49 is a nationwide lottery game drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Each draw includes a guaranteed prize draw of $1 million.
