Fun biathlon race at Omineca

About two dozen athletes from Smithers to Prince George showed up at Omineca Ski Club on Feb. 16 for a fun biathlon event. Burns Lake resident Adrienne Bender came first overall and Cody Vanwerkoven from Nechako Nordics in Vanderhoof finished first in the senior category (13-16 years old). In the mixed juvenille and recreation categories (11-12 and over 16 years old) Julia Hamp from Burns Lake and Kaleb Bourrie from Smithers finished first.

In the mixed juvenille and recreation categories (11-12 and over 16 years old) Julia Hamp from Burns Lake and Kaleb Bourrie from Smithers finished first. There was a tie in the youth category (17-18 years old) between Burns Lake’s Côle Bender and Linnea Moutray from Vanderhoof, and Claire Lesawich from Smithers and Kyla Vanwerkoven of Vanderhoof. For the super sprint, chocolate prizes were given to the first four biathletes to cross the finish line: Côle Bender, Linnea Moutray, Claire Lesawich and Nicole Hamp. (Blair McBride photos)
