Investigators still working in Burns Lake

Homicide investigators from the North District Major Crime Unit are continuing to investigate the homicide of 17 year old Southside teen, Chassidy Charlie.

Homicide investigators from the North District Major Crime Unit are continuing to investigate the homicide of 17 year old Southside teen, Chassidy Charlie.

The investigation has been on going since Burns Lake RCMP were called to a home on Uncha Mountain Road at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Jan. 26 this year.

Officers arrived to discover Charlie, unconscious on the floor. Soon after, mother Geraldine Charlie spoke with the media saying her daughter was found with her face burnt, half of her hair gone and her cell phone missing.

An autopsy was completed on Jan. 31 which then determined the cause of death was homicide.

According to Sgt. Rob Vermeulen, E Division's senior media relations officer, the investigation is still active.

"There are two investigators currently working in the Burns Lake area completing tasks," he said.

Sergeant Vermeulen went on to say that investigators are now waiting on forensic lab results to be returned as well as the analysis of evidence that has been collected to date.

"The investigators are satisfied with the progress of the investigation," he said to Lakes District News.

"We have an obligation to both Chassidy and her family to be thorough and complete in our investigation," Sgt. Vermeulen added.

He went on to say that at this point investigators are not willing to comment on the evidence, or its analysis so as to not compromise the investigation.
