“Challenged? Yes. Disabled? No.” That’s how Michael Bortolotto, a motivational speaker who lives with cerebral palsy, described himself to an audience at Lakes District Secondary School last week. Bortolotto spoke about the importance of “rebelling against” negative thoughts. “We have to be accountable for our own thinking,” he said. “Negative thoughts create excuses and limitations.” For the past 20 years, Bortolotto has inspired thousands of people in both Canada and the U.S. with his can do attitude. The event was brought to Burns Lake by the local action team of the Child and Youth Mental Health and Substance Use Collaborative. (Flavio Nienow photos)
