New Burns Lake mayor won't sit on RDBN board

The new mayor of Burns Lake - to be elected next month - won’t sit on the regional district’s board.

According to a motion passed by Burns Lake council, the new mayor of Burns Lake - to be elected next month - won’t sit on the regional district’s board.

During a council meeting held last week, Burns Lake acting mayor John Illes was appointed to the board of directors of Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako (RDBN) for the next two years.

Although councillors can be appointed to the RDBN board, municipalities have often appointed their mayors to the board.

After the resignation of Burns Lake Mayor Luke Strimbold on Sept. 15, 2016, councillor John Illes was appointed as the Burns Lake acting mayor until the upcoming by-election.

Burns Lake residents will choose a new mayor and new councillor next month. General voting will take place on Dec. 10, 2016 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the village office and advance polls will take place on Nov. 30, 2016.

People interested in running for mayor or councillor have until Nov. 4 at 4 p.m. to submit an application package to the village. The new mayor and councillor will have approximately two years until the end of their term.

For more information, contact the village office at 250-692-7587.
