Possible UFO sighting near Tachet

An unidentified flying object was spotted hovering over Babine Lake recently.

An unidentified flying object was spotted hovering over Babine Lake recently.

According to a local man, who does not wish to be named, the craft was spotted a number of times on Aug. 26 over Babine Lake and was clearly visible from Michell Bay, Tachet.

"It looked like it was going to land, it came that close," he said.

While the man said he does not know what the craft was, he said it was like nothing he had ever seen before and could only assume that it was a UFO.

"It looked like a flying saucer and had five or six different coloured lights, like circus lights you see strung up at a circus."

He also said that 11 other people in his group were witness to the event while fishing on Babine Lake.

"It was suggested to report the sighting to the RCMP, but there is no RCMP detachment in Tachet," he said, adding that he did not think the Burns Lake RCMP would have come out to investigate.

"We had no proof, other than what we saw."

He said the craft returned at 4:30 a.m. while he was on security duty at Michell Bay.

"Dogs were barking too."

Brian Vike from Houston based, www.sightings.com said that while he did not hear any reports come in of the sighting, B.C. is a UFO hot spot.

He said hundreds of reports of UFO sightings come in to him every year and not just from B.C., but from  all over the word.

"In 2002 and 2003 it was UFO capital out this way," he said.

Since then there has been a lull in local sightings, but he said he has had a few reports of sightings near Terrace recently.

Vike said the best account of a UFO sighting came in 2008, near Burns Lake.

On Aug. 3, 2008 two Houston residents were traveling along Hwy. 16, near the Baker Airport, in Burns Lake when a cigar shaped craft about the size of a greyhound bus hovered over the highway in front of the men, forcing them to stop the vehicle.

The craft hovered, before reportedly taking off at an incredible speed.

Vike said the 2008 incident was reported to the RCMP.

"This is the best account of a UFO we have because it came so close to the men," he said.

He said he doubts the RCMP would have come out to check the Tachet sighting. "Not because they are being disrespectful, but because they don't have a lot of time." However, Vike said he logs all reported UFO sightings and can be contacted by email at sighting@telus.net.
