The Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako (RDBN) board of directors recently authorized issuance of a 'holiday season' gift cheque to each RDBN employee.
All employees will receive a gift cheque in the amount of $75 after taxes this Christmas.
Lakes District News asked the regional district how many employees will receive this benefit, but the RDBN did not respond by press time. If 50 employees were to receive this benefit, the cost would be approximately $3750.
Telkwa mayor Darcy Repen opposed this resolution. He said that considering that many people lost their jobs in the region over the past year, it would't be appropriate for RDBN employees to receive the gift cheque this year.
It has been the practice of the RDBN, since its inception in 1966, to present each employee with a gift cheque at Christmas.
