Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako prioritizes projects for electoral areas B and E

Organizations have submitted applications to the Northern Development Initiative Trust hoping that their projects would receive funding.

Local organizations have submitted applications to the Northern Development Initiative Trust hoping that their projects would receive funding.

Although these projects have been fully endorsed by the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako (RDBN), they still need the approval of the Northern Development Initiative Trust's north west regional advisory committee.

Due to limited resources, some projects might not receive the funding requested, so the RDBN's board of directors decided which projects should be prioritized during a meeting on Feb. 26, 2015.

The first priority determined by the RDBN's board of directors was a project by the Tweedsmuir Recreation Commission. The commission has requested $30,000 for a major hall renovation project to the wistaria hall located in Electoral Area E. The $151,197 renovation project includes foundation repairs and upgrades; interior framing and finishing; washroom and kitchen plumbing; kitchen renovation and electrical upgrades.

The second priority determined by the RDBN was a renovation project at the St. Luke’s Church on the Lake. The church, located in Electoral Area E, requested $28,000 for building upgrades. The $56,385 renovation project includes repairing and stabilizing the building’s foundation; replacing existing roofing and replacing windows and doors with energy efficient models.

The third project in the priority list is by the Lakes District Fall Fair Association. The association requested $11,690 for an expansion of the lower parking area and an upgrade of the washroom facility at the Eagle Creek fair grounds located in Electoral Area B. The $57,908 renovation project includes upgrading the washroom facility; clearing trees and landscape development for a parking area and access path.

Mark Fisher, Electoral Director for Area A (Smithers rural), will be presenting these priorities, if requested, to the north west regional advisory committee’s meeting of the Northern Development Initiative Trust. The meeting will take place on March 6, 2015.
