School District 91 chooses new superintendent

Eugene Marks has been selected as the incoming superintendent of schools for School District No. 91 (Nechako Lakes)

Eugene Marks has been selected as the incoming superintendent of schools for School District No. 91 (Nechako Lakes).

He will replace Charlene Seguin, who will be retiring after serving as superintendent for the past six years.

Marks has a master of education degree from the University of Calgary and a bachelor of education from the University of British Columbia. Although Marks has most recently served as the assistant superintendent of schools, he has been a teacher, counsellor, vice-principal, principal and director of instruction in Nechako Lakes School District since 1989.

During his time in education leadership, Marks has come to be respected locally and provincially as a collaborator who connects schools with community opportunities and inspires system improvement.

“The board is very excited to have Mr. Marks as its next superintendent,” board chair Steve Davis said. “He was overwhelmingly the best candidate we saw and clearly embodies the commitment to teamwork that is so important to School District 91.”

“Marks models his strong belief that education is the foundation of building strong communities,” added Manu Madhok, assistant superintendent for School District No. 91.

Marks is expected to assume his new leadership duties in August 2017.
