The RCMP and the British Columbia Conservation Officer Service (COS) attended a call for service at 7 p.m. on Nov. 15 at the Colleymount Rec Site, located on the north shore of Francois Lake.
The RCMP and the COS found three Burns Lake residents - two adult males and one adult female - discharging firearms at the campsite.
One male and one female were issued tickets for illegal use of a firearm contrary to the Forest and Range Practices Act, a provincial statute. The second male was arrested for careless use of a firearm and released for provincial court in January 2015.
Staff Sgt. Grant MacDonald with the Burns Lake RCMP said people are allowed to bring firearms to a campsite as long as the weapons are safely stored.
"Using a firearm at a campground is not an appropriate usage of a firearm," he said.
Police seized the weapons consisting of riffles and a handgun and also found a small amount of marijuana. No criminal charges are pending involving the marijuana due to the officer's discretion.
