Still no word from Burns Lake's Comfor Management Services Ltd. board

President Quentin Beach says he cannot elaborate on why two senior, long term employees were released

There is still no information coming forward from the Comfor Management Services Ltd. (CMSL) board of directors following the events of two weeks ago.

As reported in the Lakes District News edition of June 27, 2012, two long term senior employees were released from the company to make way for company restructuring.

Lakes District News later learned the employees released were Michael Riis-Christianson, CMSL's executive assistant and Burns Lake Community Forest general manager Dawn Stronstad.

The Burns Lake RCMP were called to the CMSL office for an employee disturbance on June 21, 2012, however no further explanation has been provided by the board about the incident.

A scheduled CMSL board meeting was closed to the public following the incident and CMSL president Quentin Beach said he is unsure of when the next public meeting will be.

Beach has said he cannot elaborate on why the two employees were released.

He also said local groups and societies that CMSL was helping out with in-kind donations and by keeping their financials in order are okay for the interim.

According to Beach, Burns Lake Tragedy Fund Society, Lakes Outdoor Recreation Society [LORS] and the Lakes District Film Society representatives have all indicated that they are fine for the time being.

Beach said the Lakes District Film Society doesn't require any in-kind help from CMSL, because Riis-Christianson, who is a society member is taking care of the issue of his own accord and not through CMSL.

"Dawn [Stronstad] is a member of LORS so she was helping them of her own accord," Beach said.

Lakes District News asked Beach what is happening with the in-kind donation of Stronstad's time that had been promised by the board to LORS earlier this year?

"I am not 100 per cent sure. These little commitments are something that will have to be further addressed by the board," he said.

"I realize you are trying to sell papers, but you have to be careful not to lump the old board in with the new board. We are not the ones who bought Sheraton [Holdings Ltd.] or lost money," he added.

Beach said the board will issue a press release next week to help clear up the public's questions and concerns.
